The factors that change the course of history are primarily the product of the contributions made by individual lives to the broad pattern of mortal existence. In his collection of 'historical miniatures,' Stefan Zweig celebrates the monumental power of the spirit to discover, to create, to transcend the limits imposed by the temporal and physical environment, while at the same time underlining man's inability to escape from the realities of his own nature. Among Zweig's illustrations of decisive moments in human experience are the stories of a siege during which seventy ships are moved across a mountainous headland in a single night, a love affair between a seventy-four-year-old poet and a nineteen-year-old girl, and a man who legally owned much of the state of California, only to have it taken from him because the government would not defend his rights

He adds the music, clothes, hairstyles, and vehicles of the day and tells his riveting story with his own unique style to take us back to that turbulent time.

Battling the Blessings isn't simply a kid-gets-hooked-on-booze-and-drugs-and-turns-his-life-around story. That's a bit more fun and I would have liked to read more of their interaction.

So, this is worth a read for a Balogh fan. The book overflows with rapid-fire action and sparkling writing. Author Licia Rando, who has a Master of Education degree, says that when she homeschooled her oldest daughter, she taught many subjects with picture books. Although some of them are just whiny brats, complaining about their parents and thinking the world owes them something and to stop blaming everyone else for their behavior.
So I like them to read about an individual that really suffered at the hands of his parents. The building plans needs way more photo's. Nothing that will teach you how to make the next blockb
